Miniature Painting Of Combine Finds A New Home!
Cool Combine is #2!
I painted this combine at the beginning of the year. It’s only the second oil painting I’ve ever done as an adult!
The Start of Something New…
At the beginning of the year I decided to expand from acrylic painting (which I still love) to oil painting.
I did oil painting as a kid, but the smell of the turpentine made me a little light headed.
Fortunately there are now more non-toxic ways to paint in oil, which has allowed me to breath a little easier.
Out of Iowa…
I’m originally from Eastern Iowa so any scenes that are reminiscent of the farmlands I (more…)
How to find inspiration
If you are waiting for inspiration, you may be missing out.
So many artists (anybody, really) find excuses to get started on something because they are waiting for inspiration to strike.
Having worked as a creative professional for over 30 years, the one thing I know for sure is that if I had waited for inspiration to get a job going, I would have been fired. Funny how when you know you have to find inspiration, you get good at finding it rather than it finding you. (more…)
Do you think other people are holding you back?
Are you a person who can come up with a thousand reasons why you can’t do something because someone or something is standing in your way? If so you may have unwittingly cast yourself as the victim in the storyline of your own life.
The Part(s) You Are Playing
If you can imagine your life as a movie and you as the director, ask yourself what roles you have been casting yourself in. You may have automatically taken roles of being a parent, a sibling, a spouse, a worker, a friend etc., without thinking much about it. It’s what everybody does. But try looking at your current roles as an actor would. (more…)
True education begins in the heart
The wisdom of the heart easily get dismissed in our society due to rampant emotional immaturity. It makes sense that a focus on reason would help to correct the errors of the heart to create more certainty in life.
But the problem with a lot of certainty is that it is boring — and it’s an illusion.
Nothing in life is certain and the heart knows that. If reason and logic don’t seem to be working to make sense out of your life, it may be time for an inward look and tend to the education of your heart. It has more potential than your mind could ever conceive.
So many of us look outside ourselves to find happiness, but the truth is that the search needs to begin within. Learning to accept ourselves as we are and broadening our definition of happiness is critical to experiencing more happiness in our lives.
Definition of Happiness:
A mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.
Are You Putting Off Feeling Good?
Why wait for happiness to show up when you can experience it now? If you find yourself starting off sentences with “I’ll be happy when…” or “I’ll be happy if _______ does this”, then you, my friend, have put too many rules around being happy. (more…)
Procrastination — The action of postponing something
Life provides us with an endless amount of things to do. Sometimes we want to do it all. Sometimes we just want to lay on the couch and veg.
Having something to do can give us a lot of opportunities to feel good about ourselves. It can even provide us with a certain amount of meaning and purpose. But having too much to do can freak us out. It can cause anxiety and many times it unfortunately causes us to procrastinate. (more…)
The Greatest Addiction
I’ve talked about being addicted to emotions before, but this quote made me stop and think about our everyday conversations and how much of those conversations are about various types of problems.
A typical conversation will involve comparing notes on minor issues and the inevitable (more…)
The Truth About Healthcare Reform
If only we put as much faith in our own body’s ability to heal with proper nutrition, the right mindset and a loving support system as we do in the government, drive-up windows and drug companies.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to take a little time out to become aware of who you truly are. We are all so busy managing our “stuff” and circumstances outside of our control that it makes it seemingly impossible to stop and remember what we really want in life—really knowing and remembering what makes us feel grateful to be alive.
